Avon Cosmetics USA 9 West 57th Street, New York; in 1886 door-to-door bible salesman David McConnell began selling perfumes in USA as The California Perfume Company. In 1939 changed name to Avon Products Inc. named after Stratford-on-Avon from where he originated. Lucy Hays was the first Avon lady 1936; launched two to three new fragrances each year. Now markets its fragrances under the Avon Cosmetic label. Avon does not advertise in the media, its ‘faces’ appear only in their catalogue. Avon was the first major beauty company to stop using animals in safety testing their produces; they were the first company to sell their products on the Internet
