In 1999 stock battle between Bernard Arnault of Louis Vuitton-Moet-Hennessey
(Chandon) and Domenico de Sole of Gucci for control. De Sole with Francois
Pinault of PPR win control. PPR has 40% stake. LVMH still have a 20%
holding (2000). Signature fragrance Gucci No1 launched in 1974. The rebirth
of the company as a leading fashion house started with the appointment
of the American Tom Ford as chief designer in 1994 ; he revolutionized
the Gucci name by creating hip, modern designs for women and men. Once
again, Gucci is one of the world's most coveted brands, and the minimalist
Gucci signature can be found on sportswear, handbags, shoes, eyewear,
and fragrances.
