Marcel Rochas was born in Paris
in 1902; in 1925 opened couture House of Rochas at 100 Boulevard St Honoré;
moved to 12 avenue Matignon, Paris in 1931; Launched signature fragrance
in 1926; established Parfums Rochas in partnership with Alfred Gosset
in 1944. Closes couture in 1953 to concentrate on perfumes and accessories.
Dies in 1955; wife Hélène became president, steps down in
1970 leaves Gosset as president. In 1975 Gosset retires, Rochas acquired
by Roussel-Uclaf; sold to Wella of Germany in 1987.

classified D4f. Presented in a flacon with a gold top which was designed
by Marcel Rochas in conjunction with Marc Lalique and made by René
Lalique et Cie and modelled on the Mae West torso; the advertising featured
a Botticelli’s ‘face’ in contrast to the re-launch in
1989; re-orchestrated by Oliver Cresp of Quest International; a decidedly
‘earthy’ mossy chypre fragrance. It is a favourite of Margaret

of Byzantium; has over 200 ingredients; a crisp white flower floral-oriental
fragrance, an edp with top notes of Mediterranean mandarin and cardamom;
heart notes of rose, jasmine, tuberose and iris with base notes of sandalwood,
musk and vanilla, classified F3f. Bottle designed to reflect not only
the Byzantine mosaics but also their colouring with a distinctive central
gold circle with the name embossed on the label. All the 'Allure' of the
fragrance was expressed in the advertising with the model bare-shouldered
