Born in Poland in 1872, married Prince Gourelli-Tehkonik;
died in New York in 1965; emigrated to Australia aged 18, started her
cosmetic business aged 20 with a face cream; opened her first salon in
Melbourne in 1902, in London in 1908, Paris in 1912 and in Fifth Ave New
York in 1915. Launched first fragrance in the same year (1915) to compliment
the range of cosmetics and toiletries. Acquired by L’Oréal
1994. Closed in USA in July 2003 but maintained abroad (Paris)
