Jean Patou born in Normandy in 1887, established fashion house at 7 rue Saint-Florentin, Paris in 1919; formed fragrance division in 1925 when he launched his signature fragrance 'Amour-Amour'. He died in 1936, company stayed a family concern; in 1980 control was passed to Jean and Guy de Mouy (Patou's great-nephews).
Principal perfumer since 1967 had been Jean Kerleo.
Company bought out in September 2001 by P&G Prestige Beauté, a division of Proctor & Gamble.
Sold to to a family-owned company in 2011.
